Pertains to ComEd ROW - McHenry Cty, Crystal Lake
McHenry County Conservation District’s Ridgefield Trace Bike Path is among 120 bicycle, pedestrian and landscape improvement projects that will receive nearly $90 million in federal funding, Gov. Pat Quinn’s office announced Friday.

The Ridgefield Trace project was awarded $934,930, the governor’s office said.

The Ridgefield Trace bike path goes 2 miles from McHenry County College along a ComEd right-of-way nearly to Oak Street in Crystal Lake.

Plans are to continue the trail from a loop near Oak Street to Veteran Acres Park, and eventually southwest to the intersection of Lake Avenue and Route 47 in Woodstock.

The funding announced Friday is part of the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program, a
federallyfunded, competitive grant program that promotes alternative means of transportation.

The latest round of awards is expected to create or retain 900 jobs, according to a news release. The ITEP is a matching fund program; work must begin on the projects within three years.

The Illinois Department of Transportation received 391 applications requesting ITEP funding totaling just less than $370 million.
